The Air Force Office of Special Investigations detachment at Travis Air Force Base has dedicated its building to a Westmoreland County native, honoring his service and the ultimate sacrifice to his country.
Staff Sgt. David Wieger, 28, was killed in action Nov. 1, 2007, along with two other special agents, near Balad Air Base in Iraq. The agents were conducting a counterintelligence mission north of Baghdad when their convoy struck an improvised explosive device.
The building dedication on Wednesday remembered Wieger's service while looking forward to the special agents who carry on his legacy.
Wieger was a 1997 graduate of Norwin High School and a member of the soccer team. When he was on leave, Wieger spent time collecting soccer gear to take back to the desert for the children of Iraq, teaching them about the game and the country he loved.
