Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell had indicated that he would follow the same plan as last year:Skip camp, show up before Week 1, sign his franchise tender, rinse and repeat.As of Wednesday, that has not been the case.Despite the belief among some teammates that Bell would be with the Steelers by now, it still hasn't happened just four days before the season opener in Cleveland."To his defense, he really has no other option right now other than to play this out a little bit longer," said Greg Diulus, an NFL agent. "There's no more contract that he could get from the Steelers. It's maximized right now; they can't change that. So he's kind of stuck in that spot where that's all the money that he can get."Bell's agent, Adisa Bakari, told NFL Network on Wednesday that preserving Bell's long-term value is a top priority.The implication here: Bell will likely not be with the Steelers in 2019, and he will be used heavily this season, which could affect his ability to get a long-term deal with a new team.Quarterbacks aside, Bell touched the ball nearly 60 more times than the player with the next-highest total in 2017.Diulus thinks Bell could hold out until Week 10. In order for an NFL player to get a year of service time, he must be on an active roster for six weeks.
