RUNNERS ARE STARTING TO CROSS THERE YOU GO, THERE'S THE LIVE LOOK AT THE TWO KIDS. WE HAD OUR FIRST MALE RUNNER CROSS THE FINISH LINE 16, 17 MINUTES INTO THAT RACE. Thousands of people gathered for the 27th Annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure at Flagstaff Hill at Schenley Park on Sunday. Nearly 18,000 participants were registered for the race, including approximately 2,000 breast cancer survivors. According to the Susan G. Komen website, the Pittsburgh Race for the Cure raised over $186,000. A Survivor & Thriver parade and tribute took place at 8 a.m. Pittsburgh's Action News 4 anchor and breast cancer survivor Kelly Frey was the 2019 Race chair. She spoke following the survivor parade. There was also 5K competitive run and 5K walk. One in eight women in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. "Who's Your One" posters featuring special messages lined the Schenley Bridge as participants entered Flagstaff Hill. The posters give special recognition to breast cancer survivors, remember those who have been lost to the disease or honor someone for whom participants are fighting.
