"we're going to take ten >> WE WILL TAKE 10% OF WHAT YOU SPEND HERE AND PUT IT BACK TO A BETTER CAUSE. ELENA: PROJECT HUNGER COVERAGE NOW, AND ONLY ON 4, TEENAGERS, CAUGHT IN THE ACT OF CARING. TWO SISTERS, AND A SOUTH HILLS RESTAURANT, SERVING UP HOPE TO FEED OUR NEIGHBORS IN NEED. MIKE: IT ALL STARTED WHEN MAYA BUTLER WANTED TO DO SOMETHING TO FIGHT HUNGER, SO SHE TEAMED UP WITH HER SISTER AJA, WHO NEEDED CONFIRMATION SERVICE HOURS. THE PERFECT RECIPE FOR SUCCESS. MAYA BUTLER LOVES SERVING UP CHICKEN MARSALA, HER FAVORITE DISH HERE AT BRICK AND MORTAR RESTAURANT. BUT SERVING HER NEIGHBORS IN NEED IS SOMETHING SHE LOVES EVEN MORE. >> JUST BEING HERE WORKING, ITS A REALLY GREAT ENVIRONMENT WORKING WITH THESE PEOPLE SO I THOUGHT WHY DON’T I MIX SERVICE WITH PEOPLE I LIKE WORKING WITH. MIKE: THE SOUTH FAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ASKED HER BOSS, IF HE WOULD SUPPORT A FUNDRAISER FOR THE GREATER PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY FOOD BANK. HE IMMEDIATELY SAID YES. >> SHE TOLD ME WHAT IT WAS AND IT SOUNDED LIKE A REALLY GOOD CAUSE AND MAYA IS A REALLY GOOD EMPLOYEE FOR US AND SHE’S BROUGHT A LOT OF POSITIVE THINGS TO OUR ESTABLISHMENT AND THIS WAS ONE OF THEM SO I WAS ALL FOR IT. MIKE: ON FEBRUARY 28 AND 29TH, CHEF MINELLA WILL DONATE TEN% OF -- 10% OF ALL SALES TO THE FOOD BANK. MAYA IS GETTING HELP FROM HER YOUNGER SISTER AJA, ASKING CUSTOMERS TO BRING NON PERISHABLE FOODS, TOO. FOR MAYA IT’S PERSONAL. >> MY UNCLE WAS STRUGGLING RECENTLY WITH HOMELESSNESS AND ADDICTION SO NOW THAT HE’S BEEN GETTING BETTER FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS WE THOUGHT MIGHT AS WELL PAY TRIBUTE TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED HIM OUT DURING THAT HARD TIME. MIKE: MAYA DEVISED THE PLAN AFTER LEARNING ABOUT THE THOUSANDS OF FELLOW TEENAGERS WHO GO TO BED HUNGRY EVERY NIGHT. >> THAT’S LIKE EVERYONE IN FIVE KIDS. I SAID THATS REALLY BAD AND THAT’S REALY GREAT THAT THE FOOD BANK IS HELPING THEM OUT AND TRYING TO GET THEM ALL THIS FOOD. >> WE NOURISH PEOPLE EVERY DAY . THEY HAVE MONEY TO EAT AND SO THIS IS JUST ANOTHER WAY WE CAN DO THAT FOR YOU KNOW PEOPLE WHO CAN’T COME DOWN YOUR AND GRAB SOMETHING HOT FROM US. IT’S THE LEAST WE CAN DO. MIKE: CHEF MINELLA SAYS THE TWO DAY EVENT AT BRICK N MORTAR INCLUDES A LENTEN FRIDAY, SO THIS COULD END UP BEING A SUBSTANTIAL DONATION TO THE GREATER PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY FOOD
