AN OAKLAND INSTITUTION HAS CLOSED, BUT DETAILS SURROUNDING ITS CLOSURE ARE SCARCE. THE ORIGINAL HOT DOG SHOP, THE O, HAS SHUT DOWN, AND A LOOK THROUGH THE WINDOWS SHOWS THAT IT HAS BEEN PRETTY WELL CLEANED OUT. THERE HAS YET TO BE ANY DEFINITIVE CONFIRMATION FROM THE O’S OWNERS, WHO DID NOT RESPOND TO OUR REQUEST FOR A COMMENT. The iconic Original Hot Dog Shop in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood appeared to have been emptied on Saturday. Several people posted on social media that the shop had closed and that thousands of pounds of food had been donated. Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi even reacted on Twitter saying “Going to miss those fries! #RIPTheO."“The O” was founded in 1960 and has been a staple in the Oakland community. Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 has reached out to the owners about the future of the shop.
