KELLY S.: HOW CAN HELP FOE -- HOW CAN FOLKS HELP? CHRIS: I WAS JUST THINKING ABOUT ONE OF THE EARLIEST FOOD DISTRIBUTION STORIES I DID MONTHS AGO. ONE WOMAN FELT HUMBLED BECAUSE SHE LOST HER JOB AND IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST SITUATION SHE HAD TO LOOK TO A FOOD BANK. THERE IS NO SHAME IN NEEDING FOOD OR HELP. THAT’S WHY WE ARE TEAMING UP WITH THE GREATER PITTSBURGH COMMUNITY FOOD BANK. THIS ORGANIZATION HAS HELPED PROVIDE 35 MILLION MEALS TO FAMILIES IN NEED LAST YEAR. PEOPLE HAVE LOST JOBS. THAT’S LESS MONEY TO SPEND ON FOOD AND IT’S A PROBLEM WE WANT TO HELP WITH. >> IT’S SUCH AN HONOR TO DO THE WORK WE DO EVERY DAY, ESPECIALLY NOW IN RESPONSE TO THE PANDEMIC. BUT, I HAVE TO SAY, WE DO IT WITH A HEAVY HEART, KNOWING SO MANY OF OUR NEIGHBORS ARE OUT OF WORK AND FACING AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE. BUT OUR STAFF AND COMMUNITY HAVE BEEN AMAZING DURING THIS TIME. Since the coronavirus pandemic began, the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has helped hundreds of thousands of people through food distribution events.During the week of giving, we will also bring you stories about the life-changing work the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank does and the people it helps.
