Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett has been named a finalist for two of college football's top honors — the Maxwell Award and the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award.
The Maxwell Award is presented annually to "the outstanding player in college football," as judged by a panel of sportswriters, sportscasters, coaches and Maxwell Football Club members.
Pickett's favorite target, Jordan Addison, is a finalist for the Fred Biletnikoff Award that recognizes the top receiver in college football.
Two Panthers have won the Maxwell: Tony Dorsett in 1976 — the same year Dorsett was the Heisman Trophy winner — and Hugh Green in 1980. Larry Fitzgerald was Pitt's most recent finalist for the award in 2003.
If Pickett wins the Davey O'Brien Award, he would be the first Pitt quarterback to do so. Dan Marino was a finalist in 1981 and 1982.
Pickett is having a record-breaking season at Pitt, moving ahead of Alex Van Pelt to become the school's all-time passing leader and eclipsing Rod Rutherford's mark for passing yardage in a single season.
Addison, who leads the nation with 15 touchdown catches, could be the third Pitt receiver to win the Biletnikoff. The award went to Fitzgerald in 2003 and Antonio Bryant in 2000.
