Take a look at Pittsburgh's Juneteenth celebrations
The grand Jubilee Juneteenth Parade went through the streets of Pittsburgh for the federal holiday this weekend.
The voting rights parade is a reenactment of the 1870 Jubilee of Freemen Parade and Pittsburgh’s 1914 women's suffrage parade. It started at Freedom Square and highlights the importance of black voting rights in America.
In 1870, the U.S. Congress ratified the 15th Amendment giving Black men the right to vote.
“Juneteenth recognizes the end of slavery,” council member Weldianne Scales said. “Swissvale has a diverse group and incorporated Black residents so it's important that Black residents are included in the annual celebration for the end of slavery and it happens right here in Swissvale."
At PNC Park, beauty from local artists was showcased at “Art as Liberation.” Twenty artists had their creations with a message showcased.
