Edgar Snyder- Finding Johnstown
Misconceptions about Johnstown would definitely be that there's nothing to do. The best part of working at Edgar Snyder and Associates is being able to get involved in the community and help people in those communities. [Music] We are the antithesis of traditional bike shops. We are the answer to a place where people can feel welcome. I wouldn't even call us a bike shop. For years, I was like, 'We're a bike space.' Basically, everything we do event-wise, always will be community based in some aspect. So, it's benefiting someone or it's bringing people together on bikes. That's all we want to do. I don't care about selling stuff. I just do it to keep what we're doing going. Bikes are absolutely vehicles of freedom. They're vehicles of hope which is kind of like where the name kind of hits. You know, we think that bikes can truly transform communities and we believe every child deserves a bike regardless of social class. So, we'll take a bike, pick some parts, fix it up, give it to a kid in need. It's been one of our missions since we've started was, you know, talking about using a bike in lieu of a car when you can. Trying to transition the city into being more friendly towards cycling. Bikes are magic. We just want to share that magic with the world. So, I've actually known Jared at Hope's Cyclery since I was a child and it is so amazing to get to see him and his heart for the community really coming through and be able to see so many people who had so many cool ideas, like, actually watch that come to fruition now, that is amazing. Mill House is a space that is very safe, it's quirky and is cute and fun. We strive for excellence and also for respect and inclusivity and that seems to be working for us, so far. It makes us feel comfortable and we just enjoy ourselves having a cup of coffee at a nice place. Back here, we have what we call our Maker's Corner. One of my friends has a shop with her mom where they make care items. We kind of needed to take up as much space as possible while still keeping in mind the community and really emphasizing the fact that people had gotten really creative with their free time. It feels really good to know that it's a safe space for people. What's kept me going was just the idea that the community needs to have Mill House and needs to be here, they need to have that space. Who knows where we'll be or what will happen as the years go on, but we know that like during our time we made a difference. Johnstown is such a special place and I'm so glad that I get to be a part of watching it flourish. We are here live at 814 Lanes and Games. We're not really live but we are here at 814 Lanes and Games. We have 20 regular main lanes. Obviously, the four VIP as well, so we have 24 lanes total. This up here is our redemption. You can scan people's cards whenever they come over and they are done with the games. Everything is now actually done virtually. This is our 30-minute escape room. This is called Mayday. You're in a submarine, you're trying to shut the water valves before all the water comes in and basically floods the submarine. So this is our virtual reality. This is Hologate. It is the No. 1 virtual reality in the world. It's really nice when people come in and they talk about how much they appreciate that we brought this to Johnstown, that Johnstown needed this and that they no longer have to travel to get an experience like this. Seeing the kids, the smile on their faces. They were so excited to be here. Johnstown seems to be where there's a lot of small businesses that strive hard to keep it rolling. I would say that the people of Johnstown are like family. At Edgar Snyder and Associates, we are all about the people, we are all about caring about people and helping individuals and businesses in the community.
