Woman injured in Pittsburgh Airbnb shooting files lawsuit
Another lawsuit has been filed by one of the victims of the Airbnb mass shooting in April 2022.
A complaint filed on behalf of Dejonia Rosser alleges negligence on the part of Airbnb, 900 North Group and K&C Ventures.
She is one of more than 200 people many of them juveniles, who attended the party at the Airbnb.
The lawsuit claims the three groups did not take steps to ensure the property “would be monitored or used for intended purposes.”
The suit said Rosser suffered several injuries as she tried to escape the building in Pittsburgh’s East Allegheny neighborhood.
“Airbnb knew this [the party] was happening,” said attorney George Kontos. “They turned a blind eye to it and they allowed it to happen because our claim is that it was in their interest to make money by letting other people rent out their properties.”
We asked Airbnb for a response and they gave the same statement they issued after the shooting.
“We share the Pittsburgh community's outrage regarding this tragic gun violence. Our hearts go out to all who were impacted, including loved ones of those who lost their lives, injured victims and neighbors. Airbnb strictly bans parties, and we condemn the behavior that is alleged to have prompted this criminal gun violence. The booking guest has been issued a lifetime ban from Airbnb and we will be considering all legal options to hold this person accountable," Airbnb wrote in the statement.
Two teenagers, Matthew Steffy Ross and Jaiden Brown, were killed in the April 17 shooting, and several other people were hurt, including Rosser who according to the lawsuit jumped out a second-story window to avoid the gunfire.
No one has been arrested or charged.
