Union Area pulled off an upset in the WPIAL Class 1A football championship game, defeating top-seeded Bishop Canevin 26-0 Friday at Acrisure Stadium.
The 10th-seeded Scotties (11-3) claimed the title in their first year under head coach Kim Niedbala, who took over the program after serving as defensive coordinator on Mt. Lebanon's 2021 state championship team.

The Crusaders (12-2) were denied in their bid for back-to-back WPIAL championships after winning the title in 2021.
