Austin Davis, Summer Lee resign state House seats
Two state lawmakers are resigning their seats as they prepare to step into different roles. U.S. Rep.-elect Summer Lee and Pennsylvania Lt. Gov.-elect Austin Davis announced their resignations from their seats in the state House of Representatives on Wednesday. Lee is the first Black woman elected to Congress from Pennsylvania while Davis will be the first black man to serve as lieutenant governor."For four years, I have had the pleasure of serving the people of House District 34 in Harrisburg," Lee said. "I was born and raised here in the Mon Valley, and to have the opportunity to represent the community that shaped me was nothing short of a dream."“This is a very bittersweet moment for me,” Davis said. “While I am proud of our accomplishments in the House and will miss working with my colleagues there, I am also excited and looking forward to working with Gov. Shapiro to continue to move our commonwealth forward.”Special elections will be held on Feb. 7 to decide who will replace Lee and Davis in the state House.
