Industry Borough residents concerned with ongoing brown water issues

Concerns over brown water in Industry, Beaver County, have been an ongoing issue.A group of community members says they are fed up with the lack of action after yet another public meeting with the Industry Borough Municipal Authority Tuesday night.“I wouldn’t put anything into this house without going through a filtration system,” David Butts said.David Butts has lived on Riverview Avenue since 2008. “Before I put my system in, constantly dirty water was coming out of spigots ... my washing machine and dryer are both brand new because the last ones were destroyed by the water,” Butts said.Besides the installation, Butts says it can cost him up to $300 each month for filters alone, but for him and other residents, there’s no other choice.“Absolutely worried about my health. That’s what made me install my own system, block it every single way I can, and the biggest thing as a health concern is just let me off the system. He’s part of a Facebook group where community members share concerns about their water. “Throw something in the pan, cook something on the stove, it leaves a ring around the pot. Terrible, bad, bad, bad,” Butts said.Butts says they have taken their concerns to the Industry Borough Municipal Authority for months, but there’s been no solution. After Tuesday night’s meeting with the board, he says there are still no answers.“We asked what is in the water? We can’t even get a straight answer ... I am at my wit's end, but all I can do is keep filing request after request and doing things the legal way and trying to bring transparency,” Butts said.Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 called the Industry Borough Municipal Authority but hasn’t heard back. No one was inside the building Wednesday afternoon.
