A sprinkler mishap above the South Fayette High School theater stage on Thursday led to a virtual learning day for students at the school on Friday.
It was around 7 p.m. Thursday that the sprinkler system above the stage was activated and everyone inside the building was evacuated.
Oak Ridge Fire Chief Bill Supan said a cable used during rehearsal for the high school musical wrapped around a sprinkler head, causing the sprinklers to activate. Images taken by the fire department show water puddled on the floor backstage and watermarks where it dripped from the stage.
The incident led the district to announce South Fayette High School only will be on a virtual learning delay Friday with a two-hour delay schedule.
In-person learning will continue as scheduled at the other schools in the district.
Performances of the high school’s spring musical scheduled to happen on Friday were postponed. The district announced that Saturday's performance will go on as scheduled, and an additional performance has been added for Sunday.
