DA to seek death penalty against man accused of fatally shooting McKeesport officer
WE WERE HERE WATCHING AS PEOPLE CAME EARLY BEFORE THE FUNERAL EVER STARTED, SETTING UP CHAIRS, FOLDING FLAGS AND EVEN SIGNS THAT YOU SEE HERE OUTSIDE THE POLICE DEPARTMENT. NOW, THEY SAY THEY JUST WANTED TO BE HERE TO HONOR MCKEESPORT POLICE OFFICER SEAN SLUGANSKI WHEN HIS FUNERAL PROCESSION MOVED THROUGH. THE SILENCE WAS NOTICEABLY LOUD AS OFFICER SEAN SLUGANSKI BODY PASSED THE MCKEESPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT ON HIS FINAL RIDE THROUGH THE CITY. HE SERVED AND THE COMMUNITY WHERE HE DIED. I JUST WANTED TO BE THERE ALONG THE SIDEWALK IN FRONT OF THE MCKEESPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT. THOSE WHO DIDN’T KNOW HIM GRIEVED. I WAS A FIRST RESPONDER FOR A LOT OF YEARS AND FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY. AND IT’S JUST HEARTBREAKING. AND IT’S JUST BROTHERHOOD. SOMETHING THAT IS CLEAR BY THE HUNDREDS OF POLICE DEPARTMENTS WHO ESCORTED OFFICERS SLUGANSKI BODY, MANY FROM NEARBY COMMUNITIES, BUT SOME AS FAR AS MORGANTOWN, ALTOONA AND LEWISTON AND LOOKING ON FAMILY OF FELLOW MCKEESPORT POLICE OFFICERS WHO SAY THEY NEEDED TO BE HERE. DESPITE HOW DIFFICULT THIS IS TO HAVE THIS HIT SO HARD AT HOME. SOME BEARABLE CATHY TAGALONGS SAW IN HER GRANDCHILDREN’S FATHER WORKED ALONGSIDE OFFICER SLUGANSKI KEY IN THE MCKEESPORT POLICE DEPARTMENT WITH DAVE ONE AND SON IN LAW, WHO WAS A K-9 HANDLER. AND I JUST WANT TO BE HERE TO SUPPORT THEM. YOU KNOW, LAST WEEK WAS A TRAGEDY AND IT SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. AND IT WAS UNFORTUNATE AND WE GOT TO DO THINGS THAT WE CAN TO TRY TO MAKE THINGS BETTER. AND TODAY, FOR THESE FAMILY MEMBERS AND STRANGERS, IT WAS STANDING HERE HONORING OFFICER SEAN SLUGANSKI FOR HIS SERVICE AND SACRIFICE
