THEY DESERVE TRANSPARENCY. WHEN I BOUGHT THE PROPERTY, I REALIZED THAT THE PLANT WAS GOING TO BE THERE. I NEVER EXPECTED IT WAS GOING TO AFFECT US THE WAY IT DOES. DOMINIC TREY MARKEY LIVES NEAR SHELL’S PETRO CHEMICAL PLASTICS PLANT. ON TUESDAY NIGHT, HE SAW AND HEARD THE FLARE. WHEN I WENT TO BED, I HEARD KIND OF A POPPING SOUND. THESE VIDEOS WERE SENT TO US BY THE COMMUNITY WATCHDOG GROUP EYES ON SHELL. RESIDENTS SAID THE SHELL CRACKER PLANT FLARED GASES FOR ALMOST 3 HOURS, STARTING AROUND 9:50 P.M. INTENSE NOISE AND LIGHT POLLUTION WAS REPORTED UP TO TEN MILES AWAY. WHEN YOU SEE THE PICTURES, IT LOOKS LIKE A SUNRISE OR SUNSET. SO YOU REMEMBER THIS IS YOU KNOW, 10:00 AT NIGHT AND IT SHOULDN’T BE LOOKING LIKE THAT. THROUGH EARTHWORKS IN EAST PETERSON AND ADVOCATES FOR GROUPS LIKE EYES ON SHELL, SHE SAID SHELL GAVE NO WARNING BEFORE THE FLARE. WE WERE WAITING FOR ANY WORD FROM SHELL DURING THE INCIDENT. SHELDON NOT POST UNTIL THIS MORNING WHEN THEY RETROACTIVELY LET THE COMMUNITY KNOW THAT THEY WOULD BE FLARING. IN A POST, SHELL SAID THEY ACTIVATED A GROUND FLARE IN RESPONSE TO A COMPRESSOR TRIP, ADDING, OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, PEOPLE MAY SEE A GLOW FROM IT AS HYDRO CARBONS ARE REINTRODUCED INTO THE SYSTEM. IT HAS BEEN INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING THAT SHELL HAS JUST RIGHT OFF THE BAT BEEN SUCH A TERRIBLE NEIGHBOR. LAST MONTH, EYES ON SHELL AND SEVERAL OTHER GROUPS SENT A LETTER TO THE DEP CALLING ON THE AGENCY TO HALT OPERATIONS DUE TO THE ONGOING AIR POLLUTION VIOLATIONS. SO FAR, NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. I’M NOT HERE. THE SHOT. NOTHING DOWN. I JUST WANT THEM TO LIVE UP TO WHAT THEY TOLD BEAVER COUNTY WHEN THEY FIRST PLANNED ON PUTTING THE PLAN HERE. THE GROUP EYES ON SHELL SAID IF YOU HAVE ANY CONCERNS ABOUT THE PLANT, YOU ARE ASKED TO REACH OUT TO THEM. WE HAVE THAT INFORMATION UP ON OUR WEBSITE AT WTAE. COM. MEANWHILE, WE DID REACH OUT TO DEP FOR A RESPONSE. THEY SAID THEY ARE WORKING ON ONE REPORTING FOR BEAVER COUNTY. ASHLEY ZYLKA PITTSBURGH’S ACTION NEWS 4. THANK YOU. WE ACTUALLY JUST IN TONIGHT AT 6:00, CONGRESSMAN CHRIS LUCIO WHO REPRESENTS BEAVER COUNTY ISSUED A STATEMENT ABOUT THE FLARING SAYING THIS FOLKS IN BEAVER COUNTY HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT THESE PAST FEW WEEKS AND LAST NIGHT’S FLARING AT THE SHELL CRACKER PLANT HAS ONLY ADDED TO THEIR CONCERN AS MALFUNCTIONS AND CONSEQUENT FLARING SHOULD BE INFREQUENT AND TH
