Damar Hamlin, the Buffalo Bills safety and former Pitt star, met with President Joe Biden during a surprise visit to the White House on Thursday.
The president's Twitter account shared a picture of Biden and Hamlin sitting together, along with this caption: "Damar Hamlin's courage, resilience, and spirit inspired the American people. And what's more: he turned recovery into action – and our country is better for it. It was my honor to have him and his family here today."
In a pool statement, the White House said Biden "commended Damar for his efforts – including through legislation – to bring people together and make life-saving technologies more widely available."
Hamlin traveled to Washington this week with some children from Pittsburgh to fight for a bill that makes sure all schools have access to automated external defibrillators, or AEDs, a device that saved the life of the McKees Rocks native on the football field earlier this year.
