"I went into that front door and saw that (water) was chest high, steps covered, and it was unreal. I couldn't believe it," said Noah Cathcart, who just moved in a few weeks ago on the first level of Westgate. "Everything I own, I just moved everything in there. I have my mother's ashes in there, the very few pictures I have left of my parents."
The water main break happened on South Trenton Avenue, which sits up on a hill behind the complex.
Firefighters told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that roughly four to five feet of water filled the first-level condos.
The Wilkinsburg-Penn Joint Water Authority was on the scene standing by to fix the break and told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 they believe it happened due to an old pipe.
"(The) water main break on Trenton blew the water all into these buildings," said Juanita Jackson, whose daughter lives on the first level of the complex. "Very, very upsetting. I'm waiting to see how much damage is done to her apartment."
Firefighters said one resident had a cut on his hand, but it was minor, and there were no other injuries.
