Car fire on Route 48 spreads, causing brush fires
THAT SUV EXPLOSION HAPPENED HERE, A ROUTE 48 IN THE NORTHBOUND LANE IN NORTH FOR SALE. WE WERE TOLD THAT IT WAS SO LOUD, SO HEAVY THAT IT ACTUALLY FELT AND HEARD ABOUT A HALF MILE IN THAT DIRECTION, NORTHBOUND ON ROUTE 48. BUT THIS IS THE ACTUAL SPOT WHERE IT HAPPENED. THIS CHARRED OUT AREA IS WHERE THE SUV ACTUALLY EXPLODED. EXPLODED AND CAUGHT FIRE. IF YOU LOOK BEYOND THIS SPOT INTO THE GRASSY AREA, THAT’S WHERE A BRUSH FIRE STARTED AFTER THE EXPLOSION. AND THEN IF YOU LOOK ACROSS THE ROAD AND THE SOUTHBOUND DIRECTION OF ROUTE 48, THAT DARKENED AREA IS WHERE ANOTHER BRUSH FIRE STARTED AS A RESULT OF THE EXPLOSION. AND IT WENT ALL THE WAY UP TO THE HILLSIDE. HERE’S MORE NOW FROM SKY 4. AS WE SEE FIRST RESPONDERS CATCHING UP TO THIS EXPLOSION OF THE SUV, PUTTING IT OUT, EXTINGUISHING IT. AND THEN WITHIN MINUTES, THE ENSUING BRUSH FIRES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE ROAD. THIS CAUSE, FIRST RESPONDERS TO COME IN FROM MONROEVILLE NORTH FOR SALES AS WELL AS PITCAIRN AND EAST MCKEE SPORT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES REPORTED. BUT AS WE SAID, THAT THIS EXPLOSION WAS SO LOUD AND IT WAS SO HEAVY THAT IT COULD BE SEEN. IT FELT ABOUT A HALF MILE IN THAT DIRECTION AT A SPEEDWAY GAS STATION AND CONVENIENCE STORE. BUT WE HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT INJURIES IN RELATION TO THIS INCIDENT
