A school bus crashed into a West Mifflin house Thursday afternoon, sending the bus driver to the hospital.The crash happened along the 1500 block of Homestead Duquesne Road between Grant Avenue Extension and Mellon Street around 3:30 p.m.Firefighters, police and emergency medical services responded to the scene, according to Allegheny County 911. West Mifflin #2 Volunteer Fire Company said traffic was restricted to one lane. The road was closed until the bus was removed. County dispatch says no one has been transported from the scene at this time. Jeff Soles, WMASD superintendent, says the bus was empty of students after having completed a run dropping off middle-school students.Soles says the driver was unhurt. However, the West Mifflin fire chief told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that the driver had been taken to the hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown. A neighbor, whose van was hit by the bus, told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that he thought the driver appeared disoriented after the crash."I seen her get out of the emergency door," Thamer Collins said. "My neighbor Mike got one of his lawn chairs, put it out there for her so she could sit down. She smoked a couple cigarettes, they put her in the ambulance, and took her in the hospital."The district is working with the bus company to understand what happened. The crash will not affect any other student transport. The West Mifflin Area School District contracts Sun Coach Lines Inc., for student transport, according to their website.Pittsburgh's Action News 4 was on the scene while the bus was towed away. Employees with Servpro were called to the house to ensure it could remain structurally sound as the bus was being removed."We removed the roof off the front to make sure there's nothing obstructing the bus and create further damage coming out," said Donny Fast, an emergency responder for Servpro.This is a developing story.
