Thousands come together to fight breast cancer with More Than Pink Walk
Pittsburghers came together Sunday to walk for a cure.
Sunday is the 31st More Than Pink Walk in Pittsburgh's Schenley Park.
Benefiting the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the annual event raises support for breast cancer awareness, treatment and research. This year's goal is to raise $500,000.
“It brings everyone together that is going through a similar experience, and you realize how powerfully strong those numbers are. You know nationally, 1 out of 8 women in their lifetime will hear the words, you have breast cancer, and sadly, here in Pennsylvania, it's 1 out of 7 women. That's a lot of people, it literally touches almost everybody,” Western PA Komen Development Manager, Molly Sweet.
Everyone has a story, like Robyn Neft. She starts radiation this week.
“I was diagnosed March 17th. It was caught on a normal mammogram, but I got an MRI because I am high risk. My sister was diagnosed at 40 with breast cancer…I was very blessed because they caught it early, but I am going through treatment, so when I found out I had breast cancer, my daughter was like we have to do this walk, and it's incredible,” Robyn Neft said.
For the second year in a row, Edie Yeager is the top fundraiser in Pennsylvania. She walks for her daughter who lost her battle with breast cancer in 2012.
“I raised a little over $12,000, and my team raised over $20,000…It was very important to me because my daughter would want me to be doing this. She would totally support me,” Edie Yeager said.
You can donate to the cause until June 17. For more information, click here.
