WTAE Editorial: Celebrating Pride Month
SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD IS CHARLES W WOLFORD’S, PRESIDENT AND GENERAL MANAGER OF WTAE PRIDE IS AN EMOTION THAT FILLS OUR HEARTS. WE MIGHT FEEL PROUD OF OUR OWN ACCOMPLISHMENTS AS WELL AS THOSE OF OUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS, BUT PRIDE CAN ALSO COME FROM THE SATISFACTION OF BEING ABLE TO OPENLY EXPRESS WHO WE ARE AND OR WHO WE LOVE. EACH JUNE, MEMBERS OF THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY AROUND THE WORLD CELEBRATE PRIDE MONTH WITH PARADES AND COMMUNITY EVENTS. THESE CELEBRATIONS ALSO COMMEMORATE THE CULTURE SHIFT THAT HAPPENED FOR MANY AFTER THE 1969 STONEWALL RIOTS. BUT THERE ARE A NUMBER OF PRIDE EVENTS HAPPENING THIS WEEKEND IN PITTSBURGH, INCLUDING THE GOLDEN JUBILEE MARKING 50 YEARS OF CELEBRATIONS FOR THE PITTSBURGH PRIDE REVOLUTION. WHILE PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE IN THAT HALF A CENTURY, THERE IS STILL SO MUCH THAT NEEDS TO BE DONE IN THE AREA OF LGBTQ PLUS RIGHTS. WE BELIEVE THAT EVERYONE HAS THE RIGHT TO FEEL ACCEPTANCE AND EQUALITY. WTAE WELCOME
