Caught on camera: Black bear spotted in Greensburg

"I'll tell you right now, I did not wake up and expect to see a bear on my security camera."

DISCOVERY. SEE THIS NICE, QUIET NEIGHBORHOOD IN GREENSBURG HAD A NEW VISITOR CHECKING OUT THE AREA OVERNIGHT, BUT NEIGHBORS AREN’T SO SURE THEY WANT THIS ONE TO STICK AROUND. I THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE A RACCOON. I’M LIKE, NO RACCOONS. NOT THAT BIG. IT WAS JUST BEFORE SIX THIS MORNING WHEN HOLLY PHILLABAUM GOT A MOVEMENT ALERT ON HER OUTDOOR SECURITY CAMERA TO SEE MY NEIGHBOR’S DOG IN MY YARD HERE. THERE. BECAUSE IT GOT OUT. THAT’S ONE THING. BUT A BEAR. NO, IT WAS INDEED A BLACK BEAR RUNNING PAST HER HOUSE ON FAYETTE STREET IN GREENSBURG AND THROUGH HER BACKYARD. AT FIRST, SHE THOUGHT HER EYES MAY BE PLAYING TRICKS, SO SHE ASKED HER SON TO CONFIRM WHAT SHE SAW. AND WHEN I SAW IT, I WAS LIKE, OH, A PERFECTLY GOOD RESPONSE TO VIDEO LIKE THIS. WHEN YOU HAVE AN UNEXPECTED VISITOR, ESPECIALLY IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT’S FILLED WITH KIDS AND SMALL PETS, WHAT IF MY KID OR THE NEIGHBOR’S DOG WAS OUT AT THE TIME? ACCORDING TO THE PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION, THE STATE’S BEAR POPULATION HAS BEEN INCREASING FOR DECADES. OFTENTIMES, THEY’LL WANDER WHILE SEARCHING FOR FOOD THAT’S LIKE TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT. PHILLABAUM SAYS SHE’S A BIT WORRIED BECAUSE THIS MORNING’S VISITOR LOOKED YOUNG. SHE SAYS WHERE THERE’S A BABY, THERE’S USUALLY A MOTHER TO HEAR. CATCH IT. OH. OH, NO. SO NOW THIS MAMA BEAR OF FIVE SAYS HER BOYS WILL PLAY INSIDE JUST TO BE SAFE. AND HOLLY HAS BEEN LETTING HER NEIGHBORS KNOW. SHE TELLS US HER NEXT STEP IS ALERTING THE LOCAL POLICE DEPARTME
