Very Local: A look at Andrew Carnegie's first public library in Braddock
The historically rich and steel borough of Braddock is both comedian Day Bracey's hometown and home to the first public library in the United States.
The Braddock Carnegie Library was founded by steel magnate Andrew Carnegie for his workers in 1889 and remains a National Historic Landmark.
Since its closing and almost demolition in 1974, it continues to undergo major renovations thanks to help from local residents who have fundraised to preserve and restore the building.
Prior to the early 70s, the building offered a pool, a boxing ring, a billiards hall, a gymnasium, bowling lanes, a music theatre hall, along with other amenities.
Recently, Chardae Jones, 34, became the youngest mayor in the borough's history.
In this episode of "Ed and Day," Jones joins Ed Bailey and Day as they travel directly across from the library to Aunt Cheryl's Cafe and other memorable spots around the borough.
