Whoa! Two pink grasshoppers found in Louisiana within a week
Two pink grasshoppers were found in Louisiana recently.
Last weekend, Mary Vesich Phuphanich found a pink grasshopper in her yard in Thibodaux.
A second pink grasshopper was donated to the Audubon Insectarium in New Orleans on Tuesday.
Hazel and Stephen Lewis of Hahnville donated the grasshopper after reaching out to sister station WDSU, saying they had also found one.
Finding a pink grasshopper is quite rare.
According to officials with the Audubon Insectarium, the reason pink grasshoppers are hard to find is because their color makes them a target to prey.
According to a report out of Kansas, only two others have been recorded in the United States.
Phuphanich captured the grasshopper and took it to live at the Audubon Insectarium.
Officials with the Audubon Insectarium plan to put the grasshopper on display for the public to view.
