Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf has officially welcomed the Global Clean Energy Action Forum underway at the convention center in Downtown Pittsburgh. Earlier on Thursday, he spoke with Pittsburgh's Action News 4 about why the city is the place to stage the event. "It's a reflection of the importance of Pittsburgh in the world," Wolf said.Watch the report from the convention center: Click the video player above.The governor said Pittsburgh has become a center of innovation."From robotics, advanced manufacturing, we have all these great universities in Pittsburgh. I mean, this is a natural place for anybody who wants to talk about anything to do with innovation. This is the place to be," Wolf said.Wolf believes government can encourage the move to clean energy in a way that builds job opportunities of the future."We can accelerate the transition to the sustainable energy future that we need, and we can do it in a way that creates really good paying, family-sustaining jobs. We can do it in a way that actually helps our economy," Wolf said.David Callahan, president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, believes American natural gas has a role to play."We've seen here in Pennsylvania that the power generation sector here in Pennsylvania, CO2 emissions have declined by more than 40 percent thanks to increased use of natural gas, and more can be realized worldwide," Callahan said.Western Pennsylvania leaders hope the area can land federal funding to establish one of four regional clean hydrogen hubs across the United States, with the goal to slash emissions."Anything we can do to move to something like hydrogen, regardless of whether it comes from the methane or some other process, that's a step forward for the environment," Wolf said."Natural gas should be a part of that discussion. It's a very strong part of our energy future, not just economically but environmentally as well," Callahan said.
