Democrats pick candidate for Pennsylvania House special election
The Allegheny County Democratic Committee said it has endorsed Joe McAndrew to run in a special election to fill the vacant state House seat in District 32.The special election is scheduled for Feb. 7. A Republican candidate has not yet been announced. On Nov. 14, Carrie DelRosso announced that she would not seek the Republican nomination for the seat. DelRosso served as the representative for the 33rd District but gave up her seat to run as Doug Mastriano's lieutenant governor pick in this year's midterm election. The seat was formerly held by Democrat Tony DeLuca, of Penn Hills, who died in October. DeLuca's name still appeared on the ballot in November, and he posthumously won the election.Special elections must be held to replace two other Allegheny County Democrats, Austin Davis and Summer Lee, who were each elected to higher office – Davis as lieutenant governor and Lee as a member of Congress.The state Senate will also have a vacancy to fill. Republican Sen. John Gordner, of Columbia County, is retiring with two years left in his four-year term.
